Old Number 7 In Winter

No 7 Train Palmer MA

I really don’t know if this is Old Number 7. There is a “7” that can be seen on the train in front of the chimney. (Is that a headlamp?) So, why not call it Old Number 7?

In the town of Palmer, MA, there’s a train station that’s been converted into a wonderful restaurant called the Steaming Tender. They still operate as a train station, however, and have odds and ends on display. One of the more interesting display items is the Number 7 Steam Engine. This is a tricky photo because of the high contrast, especially when photographing with a smart phone (although these tech toys really are remarkable).

Because of the contrast, and the snow, and the black of the engine, it made sense for this to be made into a B&W study. Then, for me, it made more sense to use some post processing magic to give it a charcoal sketch kind of treatment.
